Woven and knitted fabrics are the two major categories of outdoor textile fabrics, and they have distinct differences.
1、 Fabric structure
Woven fabric: composed of two or more sets of yarns interwoven at a 90 degree angle perpendicular to each other. Vertical yarns are called warp yarns, and horizontal yarns are called weft yarns. Woven fabrics have three basic structures: plain weave, twill weave, and satin weave. Through various changes, these three basic structures can form a variety of different structural appearance forms.
Knitted fabric: It is a fabric formed by sequentially bending yarns into loops and interlocking the loops together. The process of forming a coil of yarn can be divided into two types: horizontal and vertical. Horizontal weaving is called weft weaving, while vertical weaving is called warp knitting. Knitted fabrics mainly have three basic structures: flat needle, ribbed, and double-sided weave, which can be varied in various ways and have different structural appearances.
2、 Fabric characteristics
Woven fabric: structurally stable, flat surface, generally does not sag when hanging, the fabric is generally tight and durable, but has poor elasticity.
Knitted fabric: It can extend in all directions, has good elasticity, and the coil structure makes the fabric highly breathable and soft to the touch. However, knitted fabrics are prone to shrinkage and curling, and their wear resistance and resistance to pilling and pilling are relatively poor.
3、 Application scenarios
Woven fabric: Due to its stable structure and good wear resistance, it is suitable for making body parts of clothes, such as shirts, suits, down jackets, etc. In addition, woven fabrics are also suitable for making outdoor equipment that requires a certain degree of form retention ability, such as tents, backpacks, etc.
Knitted fabric: Due to its soft, comfortable, and breathable characteristics, it is suitable for making close fitting clothing such as underwear, T-shirts, etc. Meanwhile, knitted fabrics are also commonly used to make sportswear, such as sports pants, sports socks, etc., because their good elasticity can adapt to body stretching during exercise.
